ETS traveled to Chile last week to further efforts to promote stewardship practices and encourage counter season seed producers to join and implement the program.

ETS, hosted by ChileBio, presented key details of the program to 30 representatives of canola seed producers Temuco, Chile. The presentation focused on the benefits of implementing a strong stewardship and quality management system:

  • Focus Employees on Importance of Stewardship and Quality Management to Industry’s Freedom to Operate
  • Achieve a Consistent Operational Discipline
  • Improve/Strengthen Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Anticipate Regulations and Lower Cost of Compliance
  • Reduce Potential Liability
  • Strengthen relationships with customers, authorities and the public

Participants were also given details on the ETS Audit Program and the commitments all members make to strengthen the integrity of the program and elevate the overall industry’s use of best management practices. Afterwards, ETS traveled to Santiago to meet with current members of ETS who have Chilean operations. The meeting included updates on the program, discussion of points of improvement and a good discourse regarding the future of the program. The local ETS Committee developed a general framework of activities and programs to be implemented in Chile moving forward.

In addition to industry outreach, ETS and ChileBio Executive Directors, Chris Holdgreve and Miguel Angel Sanchez met with the Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG), the Chilean regulatory agency, to explain the program and describe the progress in Chile since it was introduced to SAG in 2013. The government representatives were very pleased with progress to date and expressed support for the continued growth in participation from Chilean companies. They offered feedback on the program and pledged to assist in its promotion where possible.

ETS would like to extend a special thanks to Miguel Angel Sanchez, Executive Director of ChileBio, for his unparalleled support of our trip.
