The workshop began with an introduction by Croplife China’s Michelle Chang who outlined the supporting efforts of their Biotechnology Committee in bringing the DBNBC into ETS and supporting their implementation of the program. This effort culminated in DBNBC’s successful completion of their first round of ETS audit program commitments in December 2014.

Holdgreve followed with an overview of the ETS organization highlighting its mission to promote the global adoption of stewardship programs and quality management systems. He noted the increase in program participants from 12 founding members to 29 total regular members which includes two companies based in China. Holdgreve detailed the ETS audit program, including the expansion to the qualified auditor pool and wide array of audits that have been conducted since the program’s inception in 2008. Participants engaged in a robust discussion on the program, audits and the importance of building a foundation of stewardship in China.

The final workshop presentation was delivered by DBN Biotech Center Chief Scientist Dr. Shiping Zhang. Dr. Zhang detailed the experience of the DBN Biotech Center as they implemented the ETS program. He noted the internal assessments conducted, improvements made and preparations for the visit by the independent third party auditor. Dr. Zhang noted the improvements that were undertaken thanks to participation in the ETS program and looked forward to the continuing improvements that they would make as they prepare for their next audit cycle.
