Excellence Through Stewardship (ETS) is pleased to welcome the African Agricultural Technology Foundation, the Instituto de Agrobiotecnologia Rosario and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture as new members. These groups join the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) as globally respected research and development organizations that are strengthening their stewardship and quality management systems by joining ETS.

The African Agricultural Technology Foundation is a non-profit organization, based in Kenya, which is directly involved with plant biotechnology research as part of its goal to improve the livelihoods of Sub Saharan farmers. Its mission is “To access, develop, adapt and deliver appropriate agricultural technologies for sustainable use by smallholder farmers in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) through innovative partnerships and effective stewardship along the entire value chain.”

INDEAR (Instituto de Agrobiotecnologia Rosario) is based in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, and has research and development activities focused on crop improvement and molecular farming. It was founded as a venture between Bioceres and the Argentine National Council for Scientific and Technical Research with the intention of delivering financial value and social benefit through the development of products and services in the agricultural biotechnology industry.

CIAT (International Center for Tropical Agriculture), based in Colombia, was established by the Rockefeller, Ford and Kellogg foundations and backed by the Colombian government. Its mission is “to reduce hunger and poverty, and improve human nutrition in the tropics through research aimed at increasing the eco-efficiency of agriculture.” The organization has global responsibility for research on cassava, the common bean and tropical forages for livestock, and it also conducts research on rice in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition to its operations in Colombia, CIAT has regional offices in Kenya and Vietnam.
